Michigan Man Indicted Over April Bomb Threat at Toledo Baseball Stadium

A federal grand jury has indicted a Southeast Michigan man for allegedly making a bomb threat to Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. Nikolas Samir Salemassi, also known as Nikolas Ford, of Trenton, Michigan, faces a federal charge of threatening communications, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Ohio.

According to a criminal complaint filed by a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, the threat was reported at approximately 7:45 p.m. on April 28. The caller claimed that multiple bombs had been placed around the downtown Toledo stadium and were ready to be detonated. There was no baseball game scheduled at the stadium, which is home to the Toledo Mud Hens, on the night of the threat.

During the investigation, authorities learned that Salemassi was in Toledo at the time of the incident to perform as a comedian at an open mic night, the U.S. Attorney's office said. The Toledo Police Department and the FBI's Toledo Resident Agency conducted the joint investigation. Salemassi was subsequently taken into custody on May 19.

If convicted of the federal charge, Salemassi faces a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.
