Chicago Police Charge 20-Year-Old Man in Fatal Shooting of 74-Year-Old in Auburn Gresham Home

A 20-year-old Chicago resident has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a 74-year-old man inside an Auburn Gresham neighborhood home, according to the Chicago Police Department. The suspect, identified by police as Elijah Winsley , was taken into custody approximately four hours after the shooting occurred.

The incident took place on Friday, May 22, at approximately 1:29 p.m. in the 8100-block of South Laflin Street. Upon arriving at the scene, police officers discovered 74-year-old Fred Winsley Jr. inside the residence. He had sustained two gunshot wounds, authorities said.

According to investigators, Elijah Winsley lived in the same home where the shooting occurred. Police arrested the 20-year-old suspect later that afternoon, and he has since been formally charged with murder. Authorities have not yet disclosed the relationship between the two men or a potential motive behind the shooting.
