Chicago Police Search for McLaren Driver After Fatal Grand Crossing Hit-and-Run
Chicago police are searching for a driver who fled the scene of a fatal hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning in the city's Grand Crossing neighborhood. A 64-year-old woman was killed in the crash, which occurred in the 6900 block of South Stony Island Avenue.
According to police, the incident happened at approximately 2:42 a.m. The victim was riding as a passenger in a dark-colored sport-utility vehicle traveling northbound on Stony Island Avenue when another vehicle struck the SUV. No other injuries were reported in connection with the collision, police said.
Investigators said the driver of the second vehicle fled the scene on foot immediately after the impact. Video footage from the crash site indicated that the second vehicle involved was a McLaren sports car. The 64-year-old female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene by responding emergency personnel.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit is leading the ongoing investigation into the crash. As of Sunday, officers were still actively searching for the driver of the sports car, and no arrests had been announced.
