Seven Arrested in Southern California After Burglary Crews Use Wi-Fi Jammers and Hidden Cameras

Southern California law enforcement officials announced the arrests of seven individuals on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in connection with a series of sophisticated residential burglaries spanning Ventura County, West Los Angeles, and Burbank. Authorities stated the suspects utilized high-tech tactics, including Wi-Fi jammers to disable security systems and hidden cameras disguised as yard vegetation to monitor victims.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, District Attorney Nathan Hochman, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell, and Ventura County Sheriff Jim Fryhoff detailed the arrests during a morning news conference. Sheriff Luna showcased a recovered surveillance camera hidden inside a box wrapped in green artificial turf, designed to blend into residential landscaping. Luna explained the device contained a phone, a camera, and extra batteries, and urged residents to report any unusual objects on their properties.

The seven arrests stem from multiple incidents. On May 1, three suspects were arrested following a burglary in Ventura County, where deputies recovered jewelry, cash, and a Wi-Fi jammer. On May 4, a West Los Angeles homeowner spotted an intruder on a security camera, leading to the arrest of a 22-year-old man. Police believe he is linked to up to 18 residential burglaries associated with a South American theft ring. Additionally, three other suspects were arrested in Burbank after allegedly attempting to enter a home using a ladder to reach a second-story window.

Law enforcement officials advised residents to protect their homes by notifying neighbors and police when traveling, and to avoid posting vacation plans on social media. Sheriff Luna also recommended the use of hard-wired security systems, noting they are more resilient against wireless jamming devices than wireless alternatives.
