Four Crew Members Eject Safely After Navy Jet Collision During Idaho Air Show
Four crew members successfully ejected from their aircraft after two Navy fighter jets collided during an air show in western Idaho on Sunday, May 17. The incident occurred during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base, located approximately 50 miles south of Boise.
According to Kim Sykes, marketing director for event co-planner Silver Wings of Idaho, all four personnel from the two planes were confirmed safe after ejecting. The aircraft crashed in an area off the military base. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing four parachutes deploy shortly after the collision, and videos shared on social media showed the planes falling as the crew descended.
The Mountain Home Air Force Base was placed on lockdown following the crash as emergency responders and investigators arrived at the scene. The 366th Fighter Wing public affairs office confirmed that an investigation is underway but did not provide immediate details regarding the cause of the mid-air collision. Weather data from the National Weather Service indicated good visibility at the time, with wind gusts measured up to 29 mph.
The air show, which featured the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds as a headlining act, was halted following the accident. Officials have not yet released the identities of the crew members involved or the current status of the investigation into the wreckage.
