San Antonio High School Teacher Charged with Having Improper Relationship with Student

A physics and astronomy teacher at John Jay High School was arrested Saturday and charged with having an improper relationship with a student. Chad Allen Rodriguez , who also served as a football and track coach, was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center following an investigation by the Northside Independent School District (NISD) and local authorities.

According to an arrest affidavit, the investigation began on May 15 after school staff received a report from a student who observed Rodriguez and a 17-year-old girl alone in a classroom the previous day. During an interview with investigators, the teenager alleged that a relationship with Rodriguez began in October 2025. She stated the interactions escalated from flirting to multiple instances of sexual intercourse and the exchange of explicit photographs via cell phone throughout the school year.

Surveillance footage from the campus, located in the 7600 block of Marbach Road, reportedly showed the student entering Rodriguez’s classroom alone and remaining inside for approximately 10 minutes. The affidavit noted that another student was seen looking through the classroom window during that time. NISD officials confirmed that Rodriguez was arrested off campus and has been placed on immediate administrative leave.

Rodriguez has been employed by the district since August 2016. NISD spokespersons stated that the district and the campus are fully cooperating with law enforcement as the investigation continues. Jail records indicate the specific charge is an improper relationship between an educator and a student.
