Florida Hiker Found Dead in Glacier National Park After Suspected Bear Encounter
Search and rescue teams in Glacier National Park recovered the body of a missing Florida man on Wednesday. Park officials identified the hiker as 33-year-old Anthony Pollio of Davie, Florida. His remains were discovered approximately 2.5 miles from the trailhead of the Mt. Brown Trail.
According to the National Park Service, Pollio’s body was located about 50 feet off the trail in a densely wooded area characterized by downed timber. Searchers initially found some of his personal belongings in the vicinity before spotting his remains. Officials stated that the injuries sustained by Pollio are consistent with those from a bear encounter.
Wildlife and law enforcement personnel are currently assessing the area for bear activity and any ongoing public safety concerns. The investigation into the death is ongoing, and the Mt. Brown Trail has been closed to the public until the site assessment is complete.
The discovery in Montana follows a separate bear attack on Monday in Yellowstone National Park, where two hikers were injured. That incident marked the first bear-related injury reported in Yellowstone this year. Park officials have not released further details regarding the specific type of bear involved in the Glacier National Park fatality.
