Authorities Investigate Second Fatality Within a Week on Mt. Wilson Trail
A 53-year-old man died Saturday morning while hiking the Mt. Wilson trail, marking the second death on the rugged path in a seven-day period. The Sierra Madre Police Department reported that emergency responders arrived at the scene at approximately 10 a.m. following reports of a hiker experiencing a medical emergency. Firefighters and police officers administered care, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officials stated that no foul play is suspected in the death. While the victim’s identity has not yet been released, authorities confirmed the incident is being investigated by the Sierra Madre Police Department in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner . Officials have not disclosed the specific nature of the medical emergency the man experienced.
This incident follows another fatality on the same trail exactly one week prior. In the earlier case, a man was declared dead after falling into a ravine near Mt. Wilson Road and the Little Santa Anita fire break. At that time, officials did not specify whether that death was caused by injuries from the fall or a separate medical event. The Mt. Wilson trail is a 14-mile route known for being steep, rocky, and exposed in several sections.
