Three Arrested After Shots Fired at Police During Brighton Park Pursuit

Three individuals were taken into custody early Saturday after an exchange of gunfire with Chicago police in the Brighton Park neighborhood, authorities said.

According to police, officers attempted to stop a vehicle carrying two men and a woman just after 1 a.m. in the 4400 block of South Mozart Avenue. The vehicle fled, and someone inside fired at the officers’ squad car. Police pursued the vehicle until it crashed in the 2900 block of West 47th Street.

After the crash, police said the suspects tried to run and again fired at officers. One officer returned fire. No injuries from gunfire were reported. All three suspects were apprehended, and two firearms were recovered at the scene, police said. The suspects were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries related to the crash.

One officer was also taken to a hospital for observation. The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident.
