Body of Schiller Park Woman Recovered from Chicago River on South Side

Authorities recovered the body of a 20-year-old woman from the Chicago River on the Near South Side early Sunday morning.

According to Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office, officers responded to the 2200 block of South Grove Avenue around 8:05 a.m., where they found Maria Jose Casas Fabela in the water. Police confirmed that Casas Fabela, a resident of Schiller Park in northwest suburban Cook County, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled to establish the cause and manner of death. No additional details have been released regarding the circumstances surrounding her discovery.

Area detectives have launched an investigation into the incident. As of Sunday, the cause of death remains undetermined and authorities continue to examine the case.
