Shooting Near Sepulveda Middle School Leaves One Injured, Prompts Brief Lockdown
One person was hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon near Sepulveda Middle School in the San Fernando Valley, officials confirmed.
The Los Angeles Fire Department reported receiving an emergency call about the shooting at 3:08 p.m. First responders arrived shortly after and transported the injured individual to a local hospital by ambulance. The severity of the victim's injuries has not been disclosed. According to a school police source, an officer provided aid by applying a tourniquet while awaiting paramedics.
Officials with Sepulveda Middle School notified students and families that the gunfire took place close to, but not on, school grounds. As a precaution, the campus briefly went into lockdown. Administrators emphasized that no students were harmed in the incident.
Law enforcement agencies confirmed that the shooting occurred off campus, immediately adjacent to school property. Los Angeles police are searching for a male suspect believed to have fled the vicinity following the shooting. Investigators recovered a weapon at the scene, though authorities did not release additional details about the firearm.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim or the suspect. School officials and police are continuing to gather information as the investigation unfolds.
