Driver Killed in Shooting Before Car Crash in Calumet Heights
A 49-year-old man was killed Tuesday evening after being shot while driving in Calumet Heights, authorities confirmed.
According to Chicago police, the incident took place around 7:49 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Paxton Avenue. The man sustained two gunshot wounds to the head while behind the wheel, which led to his vehicle crashing at the scene.
Emergency responders transported the victim to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police reported.
As of Wednesday, police had not announced any arrests related to the shooting. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the attack. The incident adds to a series of violent events involving vehicles in the area in recent months.
No suspects were in custody and police have not released additional information about potential motives or suspects.
