Toddler Abandoned on West Van Buren Street, Chicago Police Seek Information

A young girl, estimated to be between 2 and 3 years old, was found alone on Chicago's West Side Monday evening after being left by an adult who fled the scene, according to Chicago police.

Authorities reported the child was discovered at approximately 6:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of West Van Buren Street. Witnesses told officers that a female exited a black SUV, left the child behind, and then drove off, police said.

The child was described as having brown braided hair and was dressed in a pink coat featuring maroon and yellow stripes, a pink Mickey Mouse sweater, pink Hello Kitty shoes, and carrying a pink Adidas book bag. Officials noted the bag contained diapers and an iPad with a pink case.

Police have not released further details regarding the identity of the woman who left the child or possible motives for the incident. Abandonment cases involving young children have raised concerns in recent years about child welfare and community responsibility in urban settings.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the child or the incident to contact Area 4 detectives at 312-746-8251 as investigations continue. The current condition of the child has not been disclosed, and police have not indicated whether any suspects have been identified.
