Eight Injured in Back of the Yards Collision Involving Chicago Police Officers

Eight people, including two Chicago police officers, were injured in a traffic collision early Tuesday morning in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city’s South Side. The crash occurred around 4:15 a.m. on the 5100 block of South Hermitage Avenue when a black SUV ran a stop sign and collided with a marked police squad car, according to Chicago police.

The two officers involved in the incident were transported to area hospitals and are reported to be in fair condition, police said. The driver of the SUV and five passengers also sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Officials confirmed that all injuries are considered non-life threatening.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding traffic safety in city neighborhoods, particularly in the early morning hours. Police have not released additional information about the individuals involved or whether any citations have been issued at this stage.

Authorities have stated the investigation into the collision is ongoing.
