Four people lost their lives late Friday night when a car fleeing an Alabama state trooper crashed on a rural road in Pike County, Alabama, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

According to Amanda Wasden, a spokesperson for the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the driver of a 2022 Hyundai Elantra was attempting to elude highway patrol officers when the car left the roadway and collided with a tree. The incident occurred in southeast Alabama, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

ALEA reported that all four individuals in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The agency identified the driver as 27-year-old Tykevious D. Russaw of Eufaula. Passengers were named as 27-year-old Robert D. Hall and 24-year-old Quamay Richardson, both from Clayton, as reported by local media. The fourth victim, a 17-year-old passenger, has not been publicly identified.

Authorities stated that the driver and two passengers, including the 17-year-old, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and were ejected from the car. The third passenger remained inside the vehicle but did not survive.

The cause for the initial pursuit was not specified by ALEA, and details about the moments prior to the crash remain under investigation. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the crash is being actively investigated, and no further information has been released as of Sunday.
