Suspect Arrested Following Dec. 5 Stabbing in Jacksonville

On December 6 in Anniston, Alabama, Jacksonville police arrested 29-year-old Marquavious Travon Williams of Anniston in connection with a December 5 stabbing outside the Jacksonville Walmart, according to Jacksonville Police Chief Marcus Wood.

Police state that investigators identified Williams as a suspect through investigative leads and community tips. Officers located him at a residence in the 800 block of East 15th Street in Anniston. When officers first made contact at that location, Williams reportedly ran inside the residence and barricaded himself. Police report that he surrendered approximately two hours later.

Details of the Stabbing Incident

According to Jacksonville police, Williams is accused of stabbing a Salvation Army worker on December 5 in the parking lot of the Jacksonville Walmart. Police say the worker had followed a masked man carrying a computer monitor into the parking lot. Authorities report that a scuffle occurred between the worker and the suspect, after which the suspect fled the scene.

Police state that the injured Salvation Army worker received treatment at a local hospital and was released later the same day. Jacksonville police released a booking photo of Williams from Anniston as well as security images from Walmart that are related to the case.

Warrants, Charges, and Custody Status

During the encounter at the Anniston residence, officers learned that Williams had several outstanding warrants in both Calhoun and Etowah counties. Jacksonville police then obtained additional warrants against Williams. The new charges include obstruction of justice and using a false ID, with bond set at $10,000; second-degree assault, with bond set at $20,000; second-degree retail theft, with bond set at $10,000; and resisting arrest, with bond set at $1,500. Police state that all of these charges, except resisting arrest, are felonies.

Authorities report that Williams is currently being held in Etowah County. Jacksonville police say he will face the new Jacksonville charges after he addresses his outstanding obligations with the other agencies.
