NASA Reveals Menu for Artemis II Crew’s 10-Day Lunar Mission

NASA has disclosed the menu that will fuel the Artemis II astronauts during their planned 10-day mission around the moon, detailing a wide variety of meals and snacks designed for the unique challenges of space travel.

The space agency confirmed that crew members will have breakfast, lunch, and dinner scheduled each day, with selections ranging from vegetable quiche and breakfast sausage to macaroni and cheese, barbecued beef brisket, and tortillas. Vegetables like butternut squash, spicy green beans, and cauliflower are also included, along with granola, almonds, cashews, and fruit salad.

Because the Orion capsule does not have refrigeration, NASA explained that most meals are freeze-dried and use shelf-stable ingredients. This approach ensures food safety and longevity, while each item is engineered for ease of preparation and consumption in microgravity, aiming to minimize crumbs that could float in the spacecraft’s cabin.

Astronauts will be able to choose two flavored beverages daily, with options such as coffee, green tea, lemonade, apple cider, cocoa, and various smoothies. To enhance the flavors of their meals, the agency noted that five different hot sauces will travel with the crew, alongside additions like honey, cinnamon, spicy mustard, maple syrup, jams, and nut butters.

Dessert options will include cookies, pudding, cake, cobbler, chocolate, and candy-coated almonds, providing a variety of sweet treats during the journey. NASA said the expanded and carefully designed menu aims to support both nutrition and morale during the mission, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve astronauts’ experience on long-duration flights.

Artemis II will mark the first crewed lunar mission for NASA in over five decades. The agency continues to prepare for the mission, with further details about launch timing and crew activities expected in the coming months.
