White Sox Home Opener Against Blue Jays Postponed Due to Rain
Thursday’s home opener between the Chicago White Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays has been postponed because of inclement weather, team officials announced. The game, originally scheduled for Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, will now take place on Friday at 1:10 p.m. if weather permits.
In preparation for the rescheduled game, parking lots will open at 10 a.m. and stadium gates will open at 11:10 a.m. All tickets purchased for Thursday’s matchup will be honored for the rescheduled Friday game, according to team representatives.
Grammy-winning artist Chance the Rapper is scheduled to deliver the ceremonial first pitch at the rescheduled opener. The White Sox will have right-hander Sean Burke as the starting pitcher, while the Blue Jays are set to feature Dylan Cease, a former Sox pitcher, in his return to Guaranteed Rate Field.
This postponement follows a challenging start to the White Sox season, including a 1-5 opening road trip and a most recent loss Wednesday in Miami. The Sox managed a split in the first two games of their series in Miami after being swept in Milwaukee.
Saturday and Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. games remain on schedule, though forecasts suggest continued wet weather may impact those contests as well.
At time of publication, the White Sox have not announced any further changes to their weekend schedule. Fans are advised to monitor the team’s official channels for the latest updates.
