Death of Assault Victim in Avondale Ruled Homicide by Medical Examiner
The Cook County medical examiner’s office has determined that the weekend death of a 25-year-old man who was assaulted in Avondale in March is a homicide.
Authorities identified the victim as Alexander C. Kazanowski. According to the Chicago police, Kazanowski was found unresponsive with head injuries on the ground near the 4900 block of West Nelson Avenue at approximately 3:20 a.m. on March 24. He was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition.
Kazanowski was pronounced dead at 3:31 p.m. on Saturday, as confirmed by the medical examiner’s office. An autopsy conducted on Wednesday revealed that his death resulted from blunt head trauma sustained during the assault. As a result, the case has been officially classified as a homicide.
The fatal assault in Avondale adds to ongoing concerns about violent incidents in the area. The investigation into the circumstances of the attack and those responsible remains active. Area 5 detectives are currently leading the investigation.
No arrests have been announced. Authorities have not released additional information regarding potential suspects or the events leading up to the assault.
