Texas High School Teacher Shot by Student in Bulverde; Shooter Dead, Investigation Underway

A 15-year-old student shot a teacher and then fatally turned the gun on himself Monday morning at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, Texas. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the shooting on the campus northeast of San Antonio.

According to Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds, the shooting occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m., triggering a lockdown at the school, which has approximately 250 students. No other injuries were reported. The teacher, whose condition remains unknown, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. "What happened today is something no community ever wants to face, but we prepare for something that we hope never occurs," Sheriff Reynolds stated at a press briefing.

Students described hearing multiple gunshots and screams from a second-floor classroom. Following the incident, students were evacuated by bus to a nearby middle school, where families gathered to be reunited with their children. Sheriff Reynolds confirmed that the shooter's family also participated in the reunification process.

Authorities are working to establish the relationship between the student and the teacher and to determine how the student obtained the firearm. Witness interviews are ongoing, and the investigation remains active.

Principal Julie Wiley announced that classes are canceled for Tuesday, though counselors will be available to support students and families. She expressed support for those affected, emphasizing the school's commitment to recovery. Hill Country College Preparatory High School, part of the Comal Independent School District, focuses on a STEAM curriculum and serves grades nine through 12.

As of Monday evening, the investigation was ongoing, and no updates had been provided regarding the condition of the injured teacher.
