West Madison Street shooting near United Center kills 67-year-old man
As of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the West Madison Street shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon near the United Center left a 67-year-old man dead, Chicago police said. Officers responded to the 2100 block of West Madison Street at about 12:50 p.m. after witnesses reported two people on foot opening fire.
Police said the victim was struck in the head and transported to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Investigators reported that two armed suspects approached the man before the shooting. A bystander who lives nearby, a 39-year-old woman who asked not to be named, told reporters she heard "four or five gunshots" and saw officers already on scene shortly afterward. Video circulating from the scene shows first responders performing life-saving measures as the victim was loaded onto a gurney and a firearm on the sidewalk near the incident.
The block of Madison Street between Leavitt Street and Warren Boulevard was closed for the inquiry and reopened shortly before 4 p.m. Area 3 detectives are handling the homicide investigation. Authorities have not released the victim's name or information about possible suspects; police continue to gather evidence and seek any additional witnesses to the midday shooting.
