Brooks Baldwin Elbow Injury Adds Uncertainty to Chicago White Sox Outfield Depth
Brooks Baldwin's right elbow inflammation has sidelined the Chicago White Sox outfielder since March 6, raising serious concerns about the team's already limited outfield depth heading into the regular season. The severity of the injury has not yet been formally determined, with team trainers conducting daily check-ins while imaging has been completed to better assess the situation.
Baldwin described persistent soreness in the elbow, noting he first felt discomfort while throwing to bases during a recent practice session. He has indicated he does not believe anything is torn, though he plans to consult additional specialists before a definitive diagnosis is confirmed. The White Sox have yet to make a decision regarding his availability for Opening Day.
The timing is particularly problematic given the team's outfield situation. Tristan Peters and Derek Hill are both regarded primarily as defensive contributors with limited offensive production, while Jarred Kelenic, a former top prospect, offers more upside with his bat. Manager Will Venable has spoken highly of Hill's defensive capabilities but acknowledged he is still developing as a player.
Baldwin had shown promising offensive progress, posting a .253 batting average with a .769 OPS and a 112 wRC+ in the second half of last season after adopting a wider, more open batting stance — a technique he originally developed during his college career at UNC-Wilmington. His absence would significantly thin an outfield group already considered one of the roster's more vulnerable areas as the start of the season draws near.
