Four Charged with Attempted Murder in Merseyside Shooting
Four men have been charged with attempted murder following a shooting on Radway Road in Huyton, Merseyside, on Friday 28 November. The incident occurred at about 22:20 GMT and left a man in his 20s in a critical condition after he was seriously injured in the leg on a driveway.
Merseyside Police stated that the men charged are Patrick Lacey, 32, of Manor Avenue, Crosby; John Jones, 35, of Stamfordham Drive, Allerton; John Hughes, 31, of no fixed abode; and Bernard Flynn, 61, of Knowsley Road, Bootle. All four have been charged in connection with the shooting on Radway Road in Huyton.
Further Allegations and Court Appearance
In addition to attempted murder, all four men are charged with conspiracy to murder. They also face charges of possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life, section 18 grievous bodily harm, and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.
According to police, all four defendants are due to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court. The specific timing of the hearing was not detailed, but officers confirmed the appearances are scheduled for later the same day as the announcement of the charges.
Police Investigation and Arrests
Merseyside Police reported that a number of warrants were carried out across Knowsley, Sefton and Liverpool on a Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation into the Huyton shooting. During these coordinated operations, four people were arrested and subsequently charged.
Det Insp Chris Clark from the firearms investigation team said the warrants formed part of an ongoing investigation and confirmed that all four men would appear in court. He appealed for anyone with a first-hand account or with dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or other footage related to the incident to come forward, adding that the investigative work is continuing.
Background of One Defendant
One of the men charged, Patrick Lacey, is a former professional footballer. He began his career at Tranmere Rovers before joining the academies at Manchester United and Liverpool. He later played as a midfielder for Accrington Stanley and Flint Town United and has also competed in boxing.
Police have not released further information about the condition of the injured man beyond confirming that he was left in a critical state following the shooting.
