Minnesota Man Sentenced to 18 Years for Killing Ex-Girlfriend
Man Sentenced in Death of Ex-Girlfriend Under Interstate Overpass
A judge on Monday sentenced 41-year-old Jason Lee Horner, a southern Minnesota man, to 18 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend, according to court documents.
Horner was found guilty last month on five counts: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, second-degree manslaughter, and possession of a firearm by an ineligible person. At sentencing, the court credited him with two and a half years of time already served.
Victim Found Dead Under Interstate 35 Overpass
The victim, 25-year-old Sabrina Schnoor, was found dead in May 2023 under an Interstate 35 overpass bridge. Owatonna police officers responded to the scene where her body was discovered. Authorities determined that she died from a single gunshot wound.
The location where Schnoor was found was identified using a mobile application that transmitted her real-time location. When a friend had not heard from her, the friend and others went to the location indicated by the app and found Schnoor dead under the overpass.
Details from Criminal Complaint and Medical Findings
According to a criminal complaint, on the day before her body was discovered, Schnoor told a friend that she wanted to obtain a gun because, in her words, "Horner had a gun and she would feel safer with one." She also used an app to share her live location with a friend.
The complaint states that Horner admitted he was present when Schnoor died. He claimed that she had accidentally shot herself. However, the medical examiner determined that Schnoor's cause of death was consistent with a homicide and not an accident or suicide.
Sentencing Outcome
The judge's decision to impose an 18-year prison term concludes the criminal proceedings against Horner in connection with Schnoor's death under the Interstate 35 overpass in May 2023. The sentence reflects the multiple convictions entered by the court, and the documented credit for two and a half years of time Horner had already served in custody.
