Young Woman Reported Missing in Houston on December 11
A 24-year-old woman from El Paso, identified as Sydney Marquez, was reported missing after she was last seen on December 11 in the 9100 block of Bellaire Boulevard in Houston, Texas, according to Houston police.
Houston Police Department officials stated that Marquez was last seen in that area earlier this month and that they are leading the ongoing investigation into her disappearance. The department has requested that anyone with information about her whereabouts contact investigators.
Description and Last Known Movements
According to information provided by Houston police, Marquez was last seen wearing a gray hoodie, a beige shirt, gray pants and white tennis shoes. She is described as Hispanic, standing 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds, with brown eyes and red hair.
Marquez’s family learned she was missing after hearing from a friend who had been with her in Houston. The friend reported that Marquez did not return to the hotel room where they were staying on December 11. The family later learned that Marquez’s vehicle had been left on Rochester Street near Bellaire Boulevard and that video showed her walking along the roadway in that vicinity.
Family’s Search Efforts in Houston
Following the notification from Marquez’s friend, members of her family traveled from El Paso to Houston to search for her. Her sister, Clarissa Marquez, said the family immediately began seeking answers by speaking with local businesses in the area where Sydney was last seen and requesting surveillance video.
Clarissa Marquez stated that local businesses were supportive as the family attempted to obtain camera footage. She also said the family has used social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, as part of their efforts to locate Sydney.
According to her sister, Sydney left behind personal belongings, including clothing, electronic devices and makeup. Clarissa also said Sydney had been clinically diagnosed as bipolar, which has added to the family’s concern for her well-being.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
The Houston Police Department remains the lead agency in the missing person investigation involving Sydney Marquez. The department has asked anyone with information about her location to come forward and contact Houston police at 713-884-3131 or the Missing Persons Unit at 832-394-1840.
The El Paso Police Department stated that it is not currently assisting in the investigation, noting that Houston police are the lead investigators. El Paso police indicated that they stand ready to support the Houston Police Department if a formal request for assistance is made.
As the search continues, Marquez’s family is appealing to the public to share information and report any potential sightings. They have continued to spend long hours searching throughout Houston in an effort to locate her.
