Teen Arrested Following Canton Shooting

A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred Monday night in Canton, Massachusetts. Authorities took the juvenile into custody at around 6 a.m. on Tuesday without incident.

Attempted Murder Charge and Victim’s Condition

Officials have charged the 16-year-old with attempted murder following the incident. His name has not been released publicly. The victim is a woman in her 20s who was seriously hurt in the shooting and remains in a Boston hospital receiving treatment. Emergency responders treated her at the scene before rushing her to the hospital.

Location and Timing of the Incident

The shooting took place shortly before 7 p.m. Monday near the Lamplighter Village apartments at the intersection of Turnpike Street and Stagecoach Road in Canton. Police said the woman was found in a car after being shot. The area around the Lamplighter Village apartments became the focal point of the investigation as officers responded to the scene.

Events Leading Up to the Shooting

According to authorities, the woman had been waiting in her car to meet someone on Monday night when a gunman approached and opened fire into the vehicle. Police noted that the suspect could have been the person she was waiting to meet. Investigators stated that the shooting was not believed to be a random act.

Shelter in Place Order and Traffic Advisory

The shooting and subsequent investigation led authorities to issue a shelter in place order Monday night. Residents of the Canton Woods Apartments and the Lamplighter Village apartments, as well as people in homes or businesses from Tracywood Road south to the Stoughton line, were asked to remain indoors. In addition, authorities requested that people avoid Route 138 during the active investigation. Officials have since lifted the shelter in place order.
