Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Early Saturday in San Antonio
Dense Fog Advisory Issued for South Texas
The National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for early Saturday morning affecting San Antonio and other parts of South Texas. The advisory is scheduled to be in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service, the dense fog is expected to reduce visibility to a quarter-mile or less in affected areas. This marks the second consecutive morning of significantly limited visibility in the Alamo City.
Areas Expected to Be Affected
The advisory covers San Antonio and extends to communities in the Hill Country and the Edwards Plateau. The National Weather Service states that heavy fog could impact commuters traveling through these regions during the advisory period.
Drivers traveling in and around San Antonio, as well as in the Hill Country and Edwards Plateau, may encounter hazardous driving conditions due to reduced visibility. The advisory specifically targets the early morning hours when many commuters may be on the road.
Safety Guidance for Drivers
The National Weather Service urges drivers to exercise caution if they must travel while the Dense Fog Advisory is in effect. Motorists are advised to slow down and allow extra time to reach their destinations during the period of heavy fog.
The agency also advises drivers to make their vehicles more visible to others by using low-beam headlights, which ensure that taillights are illuminated as well. Drivers who have fog lights are encouraged to use them. The National Weather Service explicitly warns against the use of high-beam headlights in fog, stating that high beams cause glare and make it more difficult to see the road ahead.
Additional guidance includes leaving extra distance between vehicles to account for sudden stops or traffic pattern changes. Motorists are also advised to follow the lane markings on the road with their eyes to help ensure they remain in the proper lane while driving through dense fog.
