Teen Charged in Fatal Shooting on Pear Street

A 17-year-old boy was charged with open murder and carrying a concealed weapon in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old girl in Ann Arbor, Michigan, over the weekend.

According to the Ann Arbor Police Department, the suspect was arraigned on Wednesday in the 14A District Court. Police identified the victim as 17-year-old Chikylah Richardson of Pittsfield Township.

Details of the Pear Street Incident

Police responded at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, to a report of a shooting on Pear Street in Ann Arbor. When officers arrived at the scene, they located Richardson.

Investigators recovered a weapon that police believe was involved in the shooting. Authorities stated that the incident appeared to be targeted because the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Separate Dog Shooting in Ann Arbor

Police reported that earlier the same day, a dog was fatally shot during an attempted vehicle break-in in Ann Arbor. That incident occurred in the 1800 block of Weldon Boulevard.

Law enforcement officials stated that the attempted vehicle break-in and the Pear Street shooting are unrelated incidents.

Confirmed Law Enforcement Actions

The 17-year-old male suspect faces charges of open murder and carrying a concealed weapon in relation to the Pear Street shooting. The case was brought before the 14A District Court for arraignment on Wednesday, as confirmed by the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Police have not indicated any connection between the fatal shooting of Richardson on Pear Street and the separate incident involving the dog on Weldon Boulevard, beyond confirming that both occurred in Ann Arbor on the same day.
