Woman Killed, Man Arrested After Montana Avenue Collision in Far East El Paso
Deadly Collision Reported on Saturday Afternoon
A 29-year-old man, identified as Gerard Anthony Nelson Jr., was arrested on Saturday after a crash on Montana Avenue in Far East El Paso at approximately 3:13 p.m. Authorities reported that the collision killed 60-year-old Lucia Villa and left three additional people seriously injured.
According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, Nelson Jr. allegedly drove a black Chrysler 300 eastbound on Montana Avenue and ran a red light before striking a black Ford Focus traveling north on Desert Meadows Road. Deputies stated that investigators believe he was driving while intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Multiple Passengers Injured
Officials confirmed that the force of the collision ejected one passenger from the Ford Focus. Emergency responders transported the three remaining passengers to a hospital with injuries described as life-threatening. The fatal crash on Montana Avenue resulted in immediate emergency response efforts and the hospitalization of all surviving occupants of the Ford Focus.
Arrest, Charges, and Case Status
Authorities booked Nelson Jr. into the El Paso County Jail Annex following the incident. Jail records show he faces one count of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. His combined bond was set at $650,000.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the crash remains under investigation as deputies continue reviewing evidence related to the event. No additional outcomes have been reported.
