Colorado School Bus Crash Injures High School Wrestling Team Members


School Bus Crash Reported in Lakewood

A school bus carrying members of a high school wrestling team was involved in a crash with another vehicle at an intersection in Lakewood, Colorado, at about 7:33 p.m. on Saturday. Lakewood Police officers were called to the scene following reports of the collision.

Passengers and Injuries

Authorities reported that more than a dozen people, including all students and coaches on the bus, were transported to nearby hospitals. Officials stated that the crash resulted in multiple serious bodily injuries. Police confirmed that one or more people were ejected during the incident.

Mesa County Valley School District 51 reported that 13 students and two coaches from Central High School were on the bus at the time of the crash. The district confirmed that these individuals were members of the school's wrestling team.

Condition of Students and Coaches

As of Sunday evening, officials stated that three students and one coach remained hospitalized and were receiving medical care. The remaining team members had been reunited with their families following treatment and evaluation.

Return Trip from Wrestling Tournament

According to officials, the students and coaches were returning from a wrestling tournament when the crash occurred. The bus was transporting the Central High School wrestling team back from the event at the time of the collision in Lakewood.
