Man Charged With Murder in Tenderloin Shooting on Turk Street
Murder Charge Filed After Fatal Tenderloin Shooting
A 49-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood earlier this week, according to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
Prosecutors said the shooting was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on Tuesday in the 100 block of Turk Street. Responding officers found a man sitting in a car who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that the victim's name was not immediately available.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Officials identified the suspect as Deon Jackson. According to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, investigators obtained surveillance footage that showed Jackson and two other people looking into the victim's car before Jackson pulled out a firearm, opened the front passenger door, and shot inside the vehicle.
Prosecutors said the footage then showed Jackson fleeing from the scene on a black scooter, while another person removed items from the vehicle. Less than two hours after the shooting, authorities took Jackson into custody in the 300 block of Taylor Street.
Court Proceedings and Charges
At his arraignment on Thursday, Jackson entered not guilty pleas to all charges against him. He faces a murder charge with special allegations that he used a firearm and that the killing occurred during the commission of a robbery, according to prosecutors.
In addition to the murder charge, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office stated that Jackson is charged with two counts of firing at an occupied vehicle, two counts of robbery, and two counts of possession of an assault weapon.
Authorities reported that Jackson remains in custody with no bail. Court records indicate that he is scheduled to return to court on December 18.
