Social Worker Stabbed at Zuckerberg San Francisco General
A social worker from the University of California, San Francisco was stabbed and severely injured on Thursday inside Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, according to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at about 1:30 p.m.
SECURITY RESPONDS TO REPORTED THREATS
Hospital workers had requested additional security for a doctor who had received threats from a patient. Deputies were assigned to provide security for the doctor at the hospital.
STABBING IN HOSPITAL HALLWAY
While on security detail, a deputy heard a disturbance in a hallway involving a suspect and the 31-year-old social worker. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the social worker was stabbed in the neck and shoulder during the encounter.
IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION AND MEDICAL RESPONSE
The deputy intervened immediately and restrained the suspect. Medical staff at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital treated the injured social worker on site. Authorities reported that the social worker was listed in critical condition following the attack.
SUSPECT AND WEAPON DETAILS
Deputies recovered a five-inch kitchen knife believed to have been used in the stabbing. The suspect was identified as a 35-year-old male who had arrived at the hospital for a scheduled appointment. Authorities stated that he had previously made threats toward the doctor who was under protective security.
PUBLIC SAFETY ASSESSMENT
The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office stated that there was no ongoing threat to the public after the suspect was restrained.
