Social Worker Stabbed at Zuckerberg San Francisco General


What happened

A 31-year-old social worker from the University of California, San Francisco was stabbed in the neck and shoulder inside Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital on Thursday at about 1:30 p.m.

Hospital workers requested additional security for a doctor who had received threats from a patient, according to the San Francisco Sheriff's Office.

While security for the doctor was provided, a deputy heard a disturbance in a hospital hallway involving the suspect and the social worker.

The deputy immediately intervened and restrained the suspect, and medical staff treated the social worker, who was listed in critical condition.

The social worker is 31 years old and affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco.

The doctor at the hospital had reportedly received threats from a patient.

The suspect is a 35-year-old male who was at the hospital for a scheduled appointment and had reportedly threatened the doctor.

A deputy from the San Francisco Sheriff's Office intervened to restrain the suspect.

Evidence and status

Deputies recovered a five-inch kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack.

The social worker was listed in critical condition.
