Albuquerque Man Held in Murder and Chase Case
Judge Orders Albuquerque Man Held Until Trial
A man facing murder charges in Albuquerque will remain in jail until his trial following a court ruling on Monday. The defendant, identified as Dominic Speer, appeared before a judge after previously missing multiple court dates. Authorities allege he shot and killed a man last month near Second Street and Menaul Boulevard.
According to officers, the incident led to a high-speed chase in northwest Albuquerque. The chase ended in a crash near Unser Boulevard and Ladera Drive, where police took Speer into custody. Speer claimed another individual shot the victim and forced him to drive with the body.
Details of the Alleged Crime
Investigators stated that Speer was involved in the fatal shooting before the chase began. The shooting reportedly occurred near the intersection of Second Street and Menaul Boulevard. Police connected Speer to the subsequent pursuit through northwest Albuquerque, which concluded after the crash.
Officers reported that the crash site near Unser Boulevard and Ladera Drive marked the end of the high-speed pursuit. Speer was detained following the collision. Authorities said evidence collected at both locations would be used as part of the ongoing investigation.
Court Ruling on Detention
The judge determined that Speer posed too great a danger to be released before trial. The ruling came after reviewing the allegations and Speer’s recent history of missing scheduled court appearances. As a result, the court ordered him to remain held until the trial begins.
No trial date has been announced. Court officials stated that further proceedings will follow standard scheduling procedures once all case materials are finalized. Speer remains in custody in Albuquerque.
