Teen in Shooting of 49ers’ Ricky Pearsall to Be Tried in Juvenile Court

A judge has ruled that the teenager charged in the shooting of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will be tried in juvenile court. The ruling was issued on Friday, September 19, 2025, in San Francisco, California, United States.

Court Denies Transfer to Adult Court

District Attorney Brooke Jenkins confirmed that the court denied her office’s request to transfer the case to adult court. The suspect, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and attempted second-degree robbery.

District Attorney’s Concerns

In a statement, Jenkins explained that while she generally considers juvenile court to be appropriate for minors, she had concerns about the ability of the juvenile justice system to rehabilitate the defendant before jurisdiction ends. Her office sought the transfer hearing because of these concerns.

She added that her evaluation considered the Juvenile Probation Department’s record with serious cases. Jenkins noted that testimony during the proceedings showed youths who completed the “SF Secure Track” rehabilitation program had later reoffended. Some of them faced felony charges or were convicted of at least one felony in adult criminal court before age 25.

Hope for Rehabilitation

Despite her concerns, Jenkins stated that she respects the court’s decision. She expressed hope that rehabilitation will succeed in this case and that public safety will be maintained.

The case continues under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court as authorities proceed with the legal process.
