Fatal Motorcycle Crash Reported in Klickitat County

A serious motorcycle collision in Klickitat County, Washington, resulted in the death of a young rider on Monday afternoon. The Washington State Patrol confirmed that the victim was 25-year-old Austin R. Whittington of Portland.

Crash Occurred on Highway 142

The incident was reported around 1 p.m. on Highway 142 near milepost 22. Investigators said Whittington was riding a Yamaha FZ6 when he lost control on a curve. Instead of completing the turn, the motorcycle went straight off the roadway and dropped down a steep embankment.

The bike struck multiple trees before coming to rest approximately 30 feet below the road. Emergency responders reached the scene, but Whittington had sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead where the crash occurred.

Speed Believed to Be a Factor

According to the Washington State Patrol, Whittington was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Officials added that while it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were involved, speed was identified as a likely contributing factor.
