Final Suspect in Indianapolis Police Shooting Captured Ending Intense Manhunt
Fourth and Final Arrest Made in Violent Encounter That Left Officer Injured
The final chapter in a harrowing case of violence against law enforcement has come to a close. Authorities have announced the arrest of the fourth and final suspect connected to the July 29 shooting of an Indianapolis police officer, bringing resolution to an incident that shook the community and spurred an intensive manhunt.
Arrest of Mandrell Ballard Ends Search
On Tuesday, officers took 20-year-old Mandrell Ballard into custody. Ballard had been on the run since the shooting, fleeing the scene as chaos erupted during a traffic stop. He is now facing charges related to fleeing law enforcement as well as a felony battery charge tied to a previous case.
Ballard’s arrest follows a coordinated investigation into the events of that fateful night, closing the net on the last individual involved in the attack.
The Shooting That Sparked a Citywide Search
The incident began when an Indianapolis police officer recognized a vehicle linked to a previous police shooting. The officer initiated a traffic stop near 16th Street and White River Parkway, outside an apartment complex.
As the officer removed the driver from the car to make an arrest, two passengers exited the vehicle. One of them walked around to the front of the car and opened fire, hitting the officer three times.
The gunman was later identified as 19-year-old Tyson Reach, who remains in critical condition in the hospital. Reach faces preliminary charges of attempted murder for his role in the attack.
Two additional suspects were also inside the car at the time of the shooting, including 19-year-old Mahki Starks. Both were taken into custody at the scene.
Officer Recovering After Hospital Release
Despite being struck three times, the wounded officer has since been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home. The officer’s identity has not been made public, but officials confirmed that the recovery process is ongoing.
All Suspects Now Accounted For
Three of the four suspects were apprehended at or near the scene of the crime, but Ballard managed to escape during the chaos. His arrest marks the final piece in the case, with all involved individuals now in custody.
Investigators are continuing to review evidence and piece together the full timeline of events. While charges have been filed, the case remains active as law enforcement works to ensure accountability for all those involved.
Community Relief and the Road Ahead
The resolution of this case brings a sense of relief to the community, which has closely followed developments since the shooting. The swift identification and capture of all suspects reflects the seriousness with which such attacks on officers are treated.
As the judicial process moves forward, the city waits to see justice served. For now, the focus shifts to supporting the injured officer in recovery and ensuring that such incidents are never repeated.
This case stands as a powerful reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face daily and the importance of collective efforts to uphold safety and accountability in every neighborhood.
