Justice Still Awaits for Tyvon Marco Henderson as $15,000 Reward Announced in His 2022 Murder Case

A Family's Relentless Fight for Justice

Three years have passed since 25-year-old Tyvon Marco Henderson was tragically killed, yet his family continues their unwavering fight for justice. Now, with a combined reward of $15,000 being offered, they are pleading for anyone with information about the case to come forward.

On Friday, his mother, aunt, and close relatives gathered outside the 11th District police station on Chicago’s West Side—carrying with them both hope and heartbreak. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction, with the family personally adding another $5,000 to strengthen their appeal.

"Just being heard, being seen, and knowing we’re not alone… that means everything," said Caroline Thompson, Henderson’s aunt. “It’s painful, but we’re thankful for those helping us keep the awareness alive.”

Remembering Tyvon as Lea Marie

Tyvon Henderson was more than just a victim—he was a vibrant artist, a beloved drag performer known as Lea Marie, and an active member of Chicago’s LGBTQ community. He had dreams of gracing the stage on RuPaul’s Drag Race, auditioning multiple times, while also establishing himself as a talented singer and content creator.

A graduate of Virginia University with a bachelor's degree, Tyvon had recently returned home to Chicago to build a life and career. His tragic death has left a void that words cannot fill.

The Night That Changed Everything

On the evening of July 28, 2022, Tyvon was returning to his parked car on the 4000 block of West Wilcox Avenue, simply to retrieve his phone after a day of work. Just then, gunfire erupted. A dark-colored SUV was seen on surveillance footage moments before 17 shots were fired, hitting a nearby privacy gate.

Tyvon, who stood just beyond that gate, was shot seven times and died at the scene.

“He had no criminal past. Never sold drugs. Just a young man with a degree and a dream,” said his mother, Latesha Thompson. “Was it mistaken identity? Nothing makes sense.”

Hope Through Community and Action

Over the past three years, Tyvon’s family has organized annual community gatherings on July 28—the anniversary of his death—to bring awareness and keep his story alive. These events serve as powerful reminders that behind the headlines lies a grieving family still seeking closure.

The case has recently been assigned two new detectives, and the family remains hopeful that fresh eyes and public attention may lead to a breakthrough.

“We believe someone out there knows something,” said Thompson. “Even if it’s anonymous—just say something. Help us bring justice for Tyvon.”
