Fugitive Wanted for Rape Captured in Pennsylvania After Years on the Run

Arrest Made in Malvern of Mexican National Wanted Since 2014

A 48-year-old Mexican national, Silvestre Herrera-Vasquez, was taken into custody on July 28 in Malvern, Pennsylvania. The arrest was carried out as part of a coordinated operation involving multiple enforcement agencies.

Longstanding Warrant and Multiple Aliases

Herrera-Vasquez has been living under various aliases since his arrival in the United States, which authorities believe occurred at an unknown time and date. On May 15, 2011, he was arrested under the name "Alex Acosta" for retail theft in Philadelphia. He was later convicted and fined on August 17 of the same year.

However, his criminal record escalated significantly when, on January 10, 2014, authorities issued a warrant for his arrest under a different alias, "Marcos Garcia-Reyes," for a charge of strongarm rape. The warrant remained active for more than a decade as officials searched for his whereabouts.

Commitment to Public Safety

Law enforcement officers involved in the operation stated that the arrest of Herrera-Vasquez reflects an ongoing commitment to ensuring public safety. Officials praised the effective collaboration among the various agencies involved in tracking and capturing individuals who pose a threat to communities.

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

Herrera-Vasquez is currently being held in federal custody and is set to undergo expedited removal proceedings. Until his case concludes, he will remain in detention under immigration enforcement supervision.

Public Assistance Encouraged

Authorities continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activities or crimes. Tips can be submitted through official channels to help support ongoing efforts to maintain safety and uphold the rule of law.
