Houston Teens Charged in Road Rage Shooting Incident

Two teenagers from the Houston area are facing charges related to a violent driving incident involving two other teens they know from school, according to court documents.

Chace Zion Wade Calicut, 17, and Isaiah Brice Phillip, 17, have each been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, records show.

Phillip, the 17-year-old killed at a weekend pool party, was one of the individuals charged in the road rage incident that occurred on July 6.

The pool party took place in the 15300 block of Liberty River Drive over the weekend.

Officials in Harris County reported that the unsupervised event included approximately 25 to 30 teens ranging in age from 15 to 17.

For reasons that remain unclear, multiple individuals began firing into the crowd. Three teens were struck. One male, identified as Phillip, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 15-year-old girl was transported by ambulance to a local emergency room and later flown by Life Flight. Another 15-year-old was also taken to the hospital.

Calicut, who was involved in the previously mentioned road rage case, had recently committed to the University of Georgia as a four-star football recruit.

The road rage incident occurred on July 6 on Kuykendahl Road.

According to court documents, a 17-year-old male was driving with a 17-year-old female passenger when he noticed Calicut's vehicle pull up behind them.

The driver stated that Calicut moved in front of him and abruptly hit the brakes, causing him to brake suddenly to avoid a collision.

The teen attempted to drive around Calicut's vehicle and distance himself, but Calicut again pulled alongside him, court documents state. Calicut allegedly drove erratically both in front of and next to the teen's vehicle. The teen reported seeing Phillip in Calicut’s car pointing a handgun at him.

The teen said he made a U-turn to escape but then heard multiple gunshots, according to court documents. A friend driving behind them said he saw Phillip shooting out of the car window as they drove away.

The 17-year-old driver told investigators he knew both Calicut and Phillip from school and said Calicut had been threatening him for several months, both in person and over Facetime, court documents allege.
