Woman Shot During Armed Robbery Attempt on Chicago's North Side



A violent robbery attempt in Chicago’s Lake View East neighborhood left a 24-year-old woman wounded early Monday morning, July 13, 2025, prompting an active police investigation as authorities work to identify the suspects.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of West Wellington Avenue, located on the city's North Side, when the woman was confronted by a group of armed assailants while walking outside. According to police, a silver SUV pulled up near the woman, and three unidentified male suspects exited the vehicle and approached her.

The men demanded her belongings at gunpoint, leading to a physical struggle between the woman and the attackers. During the altercation, one of the suspects shot the woman in the abdomen before fleeing the scene in the SUV.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where she was later reported to be in good condition.

No arrests have been made at this time, and the Chicago Police Department confirmed that area detectives are currently investigating the case. Authorities have not released any surveillance footage or further suspect descriptions as of yet.

This latest incident highlights ongoing concerns about violent crime in urban areas, especially overnight when residents may feel most vulnerable. Local law enforcement continues to urge anyone with information about the robbery or the suspects to come forward.
