Two Suspects Identified in San Diego Business Break-In Case
Authorities have identified two individuals believed to be responsible for a series of commercial burglaries that have affected businesses across San Diego County in recent months. One of the suspects is now in custody, while the second remains under a warrant with pending arrest due to a medical condition.
The investigation, which focused on a wave of break-ins occurring between April and June 2025, has linked the suspects to at least 11 burglaries across neighborhoods including Sorrento Valley, Rancho Bernardo, Mira Mesa, City Heights, Poway, and Santee.
One of the businesses targeted was Pazzo’s Pizza, where the suspects reportedly broke in last month. While no cash was found, the thieves stole three tablets during the incident. Owner David Vitale expressed his frustration but also hope that the arrests would serve as a message to other would-be criminals. “Mess around and find out what happens,” he said, adding, “There’s obviously always going to be some bad seeds out in our world.”
The San Diego Police Department confirmed on Friday, July 11, that 42-year-old Christopher Buck was arrested on Thursday in connection with the case. The second suspect has been identified but not yet taken into custody, as they are currently hospitalized for a medical condition. A warrant for their arrest has been issued.
SDPD Officer Anthony Carrasco noted that the suspects frequently targeted businesses during late-night and early-morning hours, forcing entry and stealing electronics, cash, and equipment. In many cases, significant property damage was reported as a result of the forced break-ins.
Surveillance footage has helped link the suspects to similar burglaries at Space Bar in City Heights and Deano’s Pub in La Mesa, capturing them in the act and providing critical evidence for investigators.
The coordinated investigation involved multiple SDPD divisions — Northwestern, Northeastern, and Mid-City — in collaboration with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department stations in Poway and Santee.
In response to the incidents, police are urging local businesses to take preventive measures to deter future break-ins. Officer Carrasco recommended that businesses leave cash drawers open overnight, so thieves can clearly see there is nothing inside. He also stressed the importance of functioning security cameras, alarm systems, and proper exterior lighting.
The suspects could face multiple charges under the California Penal Code, including commercial burglary (459 PC), conspiracy (182 PC), and potentially other offenses pending the outcome of the investigation.
Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. Community members with information are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
