Boxing Champion Gervonta Davis Arrested in Miami Following Alleged Domestic Dispute
Gervonta “Tank” Davis, the reigning WBA lightweight champion, was arrested Friday morning in Miami Beach, Florida, on a misdemeanor battery charge following an alleged domestic incident involving his former partner. The arrest stems from an altercation that reportedly occurred on Father’s Day, June 15, outside her residence in Doral, a city within Miami-Dade County.
Davis, 30, was taken into custody by Miami Beach police and later transferred to the Doral Police Department, which is handling the investigation. He was booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and held on a $10,000 bond. Records show that Davis has since been released from custody. A court hearing is scheduled for July 29.
According to the Doral Police Department’s incident report, the dispute began when Davis arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s home at 5:04 p.m. ET to pick up their two children. The verbal argument allegedly revolved around “personal matters and Gervonta having insecurities about the sexuality of their son.” After placing both children in his vehicle, Davis allegedly punched the woman on the back of her head with a closed fist and slapped her across the face.
The report further states that the woman managed to retrieve the children from Davis’s car, which reportedly escalated his anger. Davis allegedly revved his engine aggressively in a threatening manner, but she was able to distance herself from the situation and later sought medical attention at a local hospital.
A note in the report claims there have been “approximately 10 undocumented physical altercations” between Davis and his former partner, though no prior reports were filed with authorities.
This latest arrest adds to Davis’s growing list of legal troubles, particularly involving domestic violence and traffic-related offenses. In December 2022, he was arrested for allegedly striking a woman with a "closed hand type slap," though those charges were ultimately dropped.
Davis’s legal issues now cast uncertainty over his anticipated boxing schedule. He had been tentatively linked to a rematch with Lamont Roach Jr. in August, following their controversial majority draw in March. However, no formal announcement has been made by Premier Boxing Champions, and the status of that bout remains unclear in light of the arrest.
Known for his explosive power and undefeated record in the ring, Davis has also built a reputation for turbulent behavior outside the sport. Despite his athletic accolades, repeated legal run-ins have raised questions about his long-term future both professionally and personally.
