Heartbreaking Case in Mumbai as Toddler is Assaulted and Killed While Mother Allegedly Stands By
Mumbai Horror Unfolds as Toddler Raped and Killed While Mother Allegedly Watches Without Intervention
Police arrest 30-year-old woman and her teenage partner after child brought dead to hospital in Malvani
Mumbai, Maharashtra – A horrifying crime has come to light from Mumbai’s Malvani area where a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered. Disturbingly, police officials say the child’s mother was present during the crime and did not attempt to stop it. The mother, aged 30, and her 19-year-old partner have both been arrested and are now in police custody as investigations continue.
Child Declared Dead at Hospital; Abuse Suspected
The incident came to the attention of authorities on May 2, when the woman brought her unresponsive daughter to a local hospital. The child was declared dead on arrival. Doctors quickly informed the police after observing injuries consistent with sexual assault. Medical examinations revealed that the toddler died due to shock caused by asphyxiation—pointing to a violent attack.
Hospital staff were reportedly misled by the mother, who claimed her daughter had suffered from seizures. However, post-mortem findings contradicted her statements, prompting immediate police action.
Police Investigation Uncovers Grim Details
According to officials involved in the investigation, the alleged crime took place at the couple’s residence in Malvani. The teenager, identified as the woman’s live-in partner, is accused of raping and killing the child. The mother reportedly stood by during the act and made no effort to stop the assault or seek help.
Further probing revealed inconsistencies in the mother's account, and police say she actively attempted to mislead both medical staff and authorities. Investigators believe she knowingly allowed the crime to occur and failed to report it.
Both Accused in Custody; Booked Under Multiple Sections
Authorities have registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The charges include:
Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita:
Section 70 – Murder
Section 64 – Sexual offences
Section 65(2) – Aggravated assault
Section 66 – Assault on a child
Section 103 – Conspiracy
Section 238 – Causing death by failure to act
Section 3(5) – Aggravated offence by a person in trust
Under POCSO Act:
Section 6 – Aggravated penetrative sexual assault
Section 10 – Aggravated sexual assault
Section 21 – Failure to report an offence
Police say the investigation is still ongoing. Both accused are being interrogated further, and forensic evidence from the residence has been collected for analysis. Authorities are also examining any psychological factors or motives that may have contributed to the mother’s inaction.
