Love, Lies and Murder How a Glamorous Life Turned Into a Chilling Crime

In a twisted tale of love, ambition, and betrayal, a Delhi court has sentenced model Angel Gupta and her lover Manjeet Singh to life in prison for the brutal murder of Singh's wife, Sunita. What began as a seemingly glamorous life spiraled into a dark, calculated crime that ended in tragedy.

Angel Gupta, born Shashiprabha to an Indian father and a British mother, once dreamed of silver screens and stardom. She danced in item numbers, posed for magazine covers, and acted in low-budget films before shifting to Delhi in pursuit of a fresh start. It was here that she met Manjeet Singh, a property dealer, under dramatic circumstances—he came to her rescue during a late-night altercation outside a Gurugram club. The act of chivalry blossomed into a secret affair, but there was one major obstacle—Manjeet’s wife, Sunita.

Sunita, a dedicated schoolteacher from Haryana and mother to a teenage daughter, found herself caught in the cracks of her husband’s double life. Despite her efforts to keep her family together, Singh's attachment to Gupta only deepened, putting a strain on his marriage as he juggled between two homes.

Matters came to a head when Gupta’s father, an industrialist, allegedly issued an ultimatum—Manjeet had to choose between his family and Gupta. What followed was a deadly decision. The lovers, desperate to be together, plotted Sunita’s murder, hiring contract killers for ₹10 lakh through Gupta’s family driver.

Their first attempt failed in almost comical fashion, as the hired shooters were too distracted by snacks near Sunita’s house. But just days later, they struck again. Sunita was gunned down, just before Karva Chauth.

What initially seemed like a random crime quickly unraveled under the weight of evidence. Investigators ruled out robbery after discovering Sunita’s purse and phone untouched. The real breakthrough came from Sunita’s personal diary, a heartbreaking record of her husband’s affair and her growing fear.

Confronted with the facts, Singh broke down and confessed. On April 29, 2025, Delhi’s Rohini Court found Angel Gupta, Manjeet Singh, Gupta’s father Rajeev, their driver, and two hired shooters guilty of conspiracy and murder.

What began as a glamorous love story ended in a life sentence, leaving behind a haunting reminder of how far obsession can go when love turns into possession.
