Widow Claims Threat Inside Her Home as Neighbors Accused of Intimidation

A tense situation unfolded in the quiet Khatiyari locality of Almora, where a widow living with her two young children alleged that two neighboring youths barged into her home and issued threats to her life. The confrontation has resulted in a formal police case and a growing sense of fear in the local community.

The woman, Savita Gaida, who has been raising her children alone since the death of her husband, claimed that the trouble began with a verbal dispute involving her neighbor, Uma Devi. The disagreement seemed to settle temporarily after police personnel were called to mediate between the two parties.

However, just minutes after the officers left, the situation reportedly escalated dramatically. According to Savita, Uma Devi’s brothers-in-law—Bablu Singh and Devendra Singh Negi—returned to her house around 9:30 PM, accompanied by a group of 15 to 20 men. The group allegedly surrounded her courtyard, hurled abuses, and openly threatened to harm her.

Adding to the tension, one of the accused is said to have identified himself as the village head of a nearby area, using his position to intimidate her further. The incident left Savita and her children shaken, and she approached the local authorities to lodge a formal complaint.

Following her statement, a case has been registered against the two named individuals, and an investigation is currently underway. Officials have assured that the matter is being taken seriously and appropriate action will follow based on the findings.

The case has sparked concern among residents, particularly for women living alone, as it underscores the vulnerability they face—even within their own homes. The community is now looking to local law enforcement to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
