A devastating school shooting in Örebro, central Sweden, has left at least 10 people dead, including the suspected gunman, in what authorities are calling the country's worst mass shooting in history.

The violent attack took place on Tuesday at Campus Risbergska, an adult education institution within a larger school complex. According to Roberto Eid Forest, head of the city's police district, a significant number of individuals sustained injuries when the shooter opened fire on campus.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect had no prior criminal record or known gang affiliations. While the motive remains unclear, police stated there is no current evidence linking the attack to ideological extremism. The type of weapon used has not been disclosed.

Lone Gunman Identified in Tragic Incident

“We believe the attacker acted alone,” Forest stated, emphasizing the profound impact of the event. “It’s an extremely tragic situation with many affected,” he added. Describing the shooting as unprecedented and shocking, Forest called it a nightmare scenario for the community.

National Leaders Respond to the Tragedy

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed deep condolences to the victims and their families, acknowledging the horrifying nature of the attack. “Today, we witnessed brutal violence against innocent people—this is the deadliest mass shooting in Sweden’s history,” he said during a press briefing.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer, who stood alongside the prime minister, described the incident as an “unspeakably sad tragedy.”

Emergency Response and Medical Treatment

The first emergency calls were received at approximately 12:30 p.m. local time. Paramedics and law enforcement swiftly arrived at the scene to secure the area and provide medical assistance. Six individuals were transported to the local university hospital, including five with gunshot wounds. Jonas Claesson, the regional healthcare director, reported that four victims underwent surgery, with two now in stable condition.

As investigations continue, the community remains in shock, mourning the lives lost in this tragic event. Authorities are working to uncover further details and ensure the safety of all residents.
