India and Cambodia Launch First-Ever Direct Air Link

In a landmark moment for India-Cambodia relations, the first-ever direct flight between Phnom Penh and New Delhi was launched on Sunday, marking a significant step in fostering travel and deepening historical connections between the two nations.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun and Indian Ambassador Devyani Khobragade presided over the inauguration of the flight, operated by Cambodia's national flag carrier, Cambodia Angkor Air. The service will operate four times a week, offering a seamless travel experience for tourists and creating new opportunities for cultural exchange.

Members of the Indian community in Cambodia attended the ceremony, celebrating what the Embassy of India in Phnom Penh called a "historic moment." The initiative aligns with India's "Act East" Policy, which seeks to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian nations.

The new direct connection is expected to boost tourism, making the iconic Angkor Archaeological Park—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—more accessible to Indian travelers. For Cambodian citizens, it opens doors to advanced medical treatments in India, further enhancing people-to-people ties.
