Mayor Shelley Berkley and Governor Joe Lombardo Celebrate Groundbreaking of 'The Foundry'

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — In a transformative urban revitalization milestone in late October 2026, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley joined Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, Ward 5 Councilwoman Shondra Summers-Armstrong, and civic leaders to officially break ground on The Foundry. Spanning 70 acres of prime downtown land previously occupied by the Cashman Center and Grant Sawyer State Office Building, the public-private redevelopment executed with Lennar represents one of the largest master-planned residential investments in historic Las Vegas.

The project delivers over 1,000 attainably priced townhomes and single-family detached houses, creating accessible pathways to homeownership for healthcare workers, educators, and service industry personnel near downtown employment centers.

Expanding Multi-Agency Outreach Resource Engagement (MORE) Homelessness Teams

Addressing community health and unsheltered homelessness with targeted intervention, Mayor Berkley announced an emergency operational expansion of the city’s MORE Teams (Multi-Agency Outreach Resource Engagement). Deploying multidisciplinary strike teams composed of Department of Public Safety officers, mental health clinicians, community health nurses, and street medicine specialists, the units engage individuals directly within encampments to facilitate rapid intake into the Courtyard Homeless Resource Center.

The program operates hand-in-hand with the Las Vegas Municipal Court's Community Court, offering therapeutic recovery, behavioral health stabilization, and job retraining as positive alternatives to criminal penalties.

Civic Infrastructure, Pedestrian Corridors, and Entertainment Proximity

In transportation and public infrastructure, the Las Vegas Department of Public Works finalized roadway and pedestrian safety upgrades connecting the Fremont East and Arts Districts with the Las Vegas Medical District. Concurrently, regional tourism and transit planners evaluated high-capacity multimodal transit options linking downtown with proposed sports entertainment complexes near AREA15, ensuring the city's pedestrian corridors and public transit networks scale smoothly with Southern Nevada’s continued economic expansion.
