Heavy Civil Construction Expands Along 24-Mile IndyGo Blue Line Corridor

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — Transforming surface transit along the historic National Road (Washington Street), IndyGo accelerated major civil and utility construction in October 2026 across the 24-mile Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor. Connecting Indianapolis International Airport through downtown to the town of Cumberland on the Marion County line, the line represents the third and final spine of the city’s rapid transit network.

Backed by IndyGo’s expanded $432 million capital budget, construction crews are executing stormwater drain upgrades, installing fiber-optic traffic signal conduits, and repaving road beds to accommodate dedicated center-running transit lanes. Scheduled to commence revenue passenger operations in late 2028, the Blue Line will provide high-frequency, all-electric transit service for more than 50,000 residents and key industrial logistics workers.

City-County Council Conducts Final Hearing on Mayor Hogsett’s $1.9 Billion Budget

On municipal governance, the Indianapolis City-County Council conducted its final public hearing on October 5, 2026, regarding Mayor Joe Hogsett's proposed $1.9 billion municipal budget for 2027, ahead of a final ratification vote scheduled for October 19. The spending plan includes historic infrastructure commitments without raising county tax rates.

Central to the budget is dedicated funding for the 'Streets to Home Indy' rapid rehousing initiative and master-leased supportive apartment units designed to transition unsheltered individuals into stable homes. The proposal also directs over $200 million toward neighborhood street resurfacing, stormwater management, and pedestrian safety infrastructure along Marion County thoroughfares.
