RTC Southern Nevada Operates 12.5-Mile Red Line BRT as Las Vegas Medical District Adds Healthcare Housing
RTC Monitors High-Capacity Service on 12.5-Mile Maryland Parkway Red Line BRT
LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Delivering rapid, zero-emission mass transit along Clark County’s primary north-south corridor, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada monitored operations on the newly launched Maryland Parkway Red Line in October 2026. The $378 million Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service spans 12.5 miles, linking the South Strip Transit Terminal, Harry Reid International Airport, UNLV, downtown Las Vegas, and the Las Vegas Medical District with frequent 12-minute headways.
Crews completed final corridor enhancements, including widened multi-use pedestrian sidewalks, decorative transit shelters, and dedicated transit-signal priority technology. Transportation directors highlighted that dedicated transit lanes have significantly shortened travel times for tens of thousands of hospitality workers, students, and medical personnel.
Las Vegas Medical District Breaks Ground on Five-Story Hotel and Workforce Housing
Directly benefiting from high-capacity transit links, the Las Vegas Medical District (LVMD) marked major construction milestones aimed at accommodating its rapidly growing clinical and research workforce. Developers initiated ground preparations for the district’s first on-site hotel—a five-story Home2 Suites by Hilton delivering 130 suites tailored for visiting physicians, medical researchers, and patient families.
Concurrently, planners advanced architectural reviews for multi-level residential communities near Tonopah and Alta drives, specifically engineered to provide attainable workforce housing for healthcare staff, nursing students, and clinical residents. Healthcare leaders noted that providing housing adjacent to hospitals directly alleviates regional physician shortages by retaining top medical talent.
City Council Advances UNLV Health Clinical Leases and Celebrates Gholson Landing Living
At Las Vegas City Hall, the Las Vegas City Council approved key lease agreements with UNLV Health to establish state-of-the-art clinical outpatient facilities and specialized diagnostic laboratories within Symphony Park and the medical core.
Civic leaders also celebrated the successful ribbon-cutting of Gholson Landing, a 121-unit affordable residential community in East Las Vegas, while monitoring zoning implementations for 'Sunridge on Searles,' an innovative 50-home tiny-house development supporting working families. City administrators affirmed that coupling rapid transit infrastructure with healthcare expansion and diverse housing creates an equitable urban model for Southern Nevada.
